Many of my followers on social media are vegan or attempting to go that route. If you’re a true 100% vegan then that means you may have or are in the process of only using vegan beauty products. One of the ways I find out about organic and vegan products through one of my favorite YouTubers, Sunkissed Alba. She and her husband have dedicated their lives to living a less toxic lifestyle. She’s probably one of the most beautiful people you’ll ever see both inside and out. I’m not vegan, but I do use a few vegan products in my daily and I’m trying my absolute best to live a less toxic lifestyle… I’m not all the way at the level as Alba and her family, but I hope to be one day.
Many companies test their products on animals and also include ingredients that stem from animals. Fortunately there are many products on the shelves that are cruelty free and vegan.
Here are a few of my favorite brands/products:
Dr. Bronner’s Castile Oil Soap
I’ve been in love with this soap for years!!! It’s gentle and a little goes a long way. Another plus about this soap is that it can be used to clean your home, a boost for your laundry, shampoo (gets your scalp squeeky clean), and many other uses. A 16oz bottle will run you about $11 at Trader Joes or if you aren’t close by a Trader Joes, check your local Target or beauty supply store. Oh, and from time to time Whole Foods will have it on sale.
Piper Wai Natural Deodorant
I did a blog post on this a few months ago. I found out about it after watching an episode of Shark Tank. One of its main ingredients is activated charcoal which overpowers the bacteria that causes underarm odor. This is the only natural deodorant that has worked for me, and its now a staple in my home. Update (I had to stop using it during the summer because it just wasn’t holding me). One jar of Piper Wai is about $12 but every so often you can catch a two for one sale.
Julep Nail Polish (there red shades are not vegan)
I love Julep nail laquer. Even if they weren’t vegan I would still love them. They have some of the cutest shades, and they have the cutest names. I also love the the bottle is so sleek and I can fit it in places like my wallet or a small clutch without making it look bulky. Julep nail polishes run around $14, sometimes you can catch a deal on them. Right now, if you sign up as a Julep Maven, you can get a 12 piece nail polish set worth $168. I’m tempted to sign up myself just to get all of the pretty shades.
The Soap Works Bar Soap
I don’t use bar soap too often, but The Soap Works has some really awesome soaps. I found out about them last summer when I visited a cute little market in Akron, Ohio called the Mustard Seed Market. Many of their soaps are vegan but a few of them aren’t. So you will have to be sure to fully read the ingredients to determine which ones are vegan. I love their Creamy Clay soap, it gets my face extremely clean and pushes out black heads. Unlike many clay based products, it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry or cracked.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar
There are a lot of vegan lipstick products on the market right now, but OCC has got to be my favorite. At $16 a pop they are a bit expensive… I’m cheap OK! But, would you believe me if I told you I’ve had these shades for two years and I’m still nowhere near running out of them. With these, a little dab will really do ya! They used to come with a cute little applicator brush that allows you to evenly spread the color around your lips. They also came in a small plastic zip pouch so that you can keep the brush and lipstick together. Now, they come in tubes shaped just like MAC Lipglass.
This is one of my favorite moisturizers. I’ve been using it off and on for about a year. I received two bottles of it free from Boxycharm last summer when they made a mistake with my subscription, so I’ve literally be trying to savor it. See the thing is… its $48!! I know I told you that I’m cheap right…. just know that if I had to spend my own money, I probably wouldn’t buy this product lol. Nah just kidding, when I like something I’m willing to splurge every once in a while. It does a really good job at keeping my skin hydrated during the winter months and when I’m travelling. Typically when I’m travelling via plane I’ll tuck this in my carry-on because we all know how stale cabin air is and it can leave your skin feeling dry as a cactus.
Giovanni d:tox Facial Cleanser
I’ve been using this one for years as well. Its a major staple for me when I’m going through a cystic acne breakout. It removes the toxins and impurities out of my skin like a magnet. It runs around $6 at TJ Maxx and on sites like iHerbs. If you suffer from cystic acne and blackheads, I highly recommend this one.
Well, there you have it! These are a few of the vegan products I’ve tried over the past few years. I still have plenty more to share, but I figured I would stop now because I could go on for days!!! I would love to hear what your favorite vegan products are!!!
Until next time…
